This week at Soundarc Studios, I had the privilege of going back to my musical roots for a day as Stevenage-based punk rock band Three Bottles Behind came in to do a couple of tracks with me. Now, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I lived and breathed second-wave punk rock for most of my youth – Albums from the likes of Pennywise, Rancid, The Offspring, The Descendants and NOFX shaped my love of music, and the genre is still one that I can quite happily discuss the ins and outs of for hours without ever stopping to think “I wonder if I’m a boring person?”
Three Bottles Behind for me sit firmly in the modern punk niche, finding their own little hole somewhere between Alkaline Trio and Lars Fredricksen and the Bastards, and so the chance to record them and give them the full on modern punk rawk treatment was something I loved every minute of.
Wide panned guitars, big drums, and clicky mid-scooped bass guitar was order of the day, with some gang vocals and handclaps (look, clapping is punk rock, alright?) thrown in for good measure. Here’s one of the tunes from the session, called ‘He Wants To, No’. Enjoy.
